Dee Handyside is a multi-genre Singer-Songwriter based in Queensland, Australia. Her first solo album 'Genetic' - composed and recorded in a hospital and spare bedroom whilst undergoing treatment for aggressive breast cancer, is now an endorsed fundraising album for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation. The album has now become the soundtrack to an Educational Fundraising Mini-Musical entitled’The Silk Rags Project’. With a script written by Briohne Sykes, the musical is the story of how a group of friends act and deal with a friend’s cancer diagnosis. It’s funny, sad and entertaining but has a message which covers the issue of what to say/do and what NOT to say/do for a friend undergoing cancer treatment. The project's aim is to enable community theatre groups to collaborate on a performance to entertain, educate, start conversations, have fun and raise funds for Cancer Research. We are proud to be authorised by the Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) and recognise the contribution of Griffith University in the development of our Audience information handouts. Dee is also a versatile singer/performer who entertains on a solo basis with her bass guitar, ukelele and cigar box guitar as well as in a duo and trio for a variety of venues and events. Dee has previously performed in a variety of pop, jazz and cabaret acts and was a support act to Troy Cassar-Daley.Dee is a partner in the Peachey Club Music Label and Songwriting business with Steve Hills with distribution success in ABC Australia shops and online worldwide at iTunes .Dee is a motivational speaker who shares her story from an English village childhood, through careers as a Royal Military Policewoman, a Teacher, a Ranger on Fraser Island to her music career and projects which have been mentioned in the Australian Parliament.In 2012, Dee was awarded the Albert Electorate of Queensland Australia Day award for her fundraising awareness through the power of music.
