Over the summer of 2021 I was fortunate enough to help my sister launch a food service a Circo bar in Birmingham:•Working on this start up gave me insight on the complete process of how to successfully launch a catering company, from creating the menu to preparing the food. It also meant that I had to learn the relevant laws and regulations needed to set this up, leading to me complete food and hygiene related courses. •One skill which this experience has given me is adaptability, which is transferable to a career in human resources due to the variety of unique tasks that will need to be completed. There were many times where we faced difficulty with dealing with food shortages from suppliers, but these were overcome by efficiently switching suppliers.

•Tasks included baking and decorating cakes as well as preparing desserts for customer consumption. Specific baking procedures and methods I had to learn fresh, building on my knowledge of home baking•Working in a large kitchen team taught me how to deal well with various personalities; vital in situations when interacting with people to ensure a smooth working environment and clear communication•I also took on a team leader role when it came to training new staff which led to me having increased confidence so that I could ensure effective training•After having this job for over 2 years, over time I have realised the importance of dealing positively with stress, a capability also vital for outside of the workplace to ensure positive mental health

Working alongside a team to create a healthy eating scrapbook for children:• I conducted various market research to understand the target market • I helped to organise and prepare group meetings for the marketing and finances which taught me the value of organisational skills• I also gained logistical experience through my contacting of various suppliers• I also improved my public speaking skills whilst growing my confidence , through presenting my product to large groups and fairs.

Here I worked alongside the Form Tutor to help manage a year 1 class.Working here helped me work on my softer skills such as patience and leadership. Leadership developed in particular as I managed to lead classes and gave me insight into how important it is to work in a team to ensure safety in the workplace. My adaptability also improved during my time here as I quickly moved from task to task, dealing with pastoral and academic responsibilities.
