Advancing Zero Waste in the City of Austin: Project manager/Team lead designing and managing collaborative stakeholder processes to implement the City of Austin’s Zero Waste Master Plan Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Designing project structure and workflows- Developing and implementing outreach strategies to effectively engage stakeholders- Designing and facilitating stakeholder meetings- Presenting to both formal and informal audiences and serving as staff liaison to Committees of the Zero Waste Advisory CommissionSpecific projects include, but are not limited to the Universal Recycling Ordinance, Construction and Demolition Ordinance, and the Department’s Administrative RulesIntegrating Zero Waste and Austin’s Land Development Code: ARR staff lead for the City of Austin’s Land Development Code Revision projectResponsibilities broadly include ensuring Zero Waste concepts are integrated into the forthcoming land development regulations. Specific tasks include:- Analyzing the current Land Development Code- Identifying opportunities to emphasize Zero Waste infrastructure development- Engaging in stakeholder discussions Other projects associated with land development include leading ARR’s planning team through reviews of Municipal Utility District applications

- Project manager leading the development of a comprehensive neighborhood plan. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to managing the planning process as well as the staff plan team, developing and implementing outreach strategies to effectively engage a multi-cultural population, designing neighborhood workshops, coordinating with other city departments, facilitating community discussions and making both formal and informal public presentations. - Support the Imagine Austin comprehensive planning process through active involvement in designing community forums, developing innovative outreach methods and facilitating public workshops. Designated staff liaison for the Conservation and Environmental Resources working group. - Additional projects include acting as PDRD's Comprehensive Planning point of contact on the City's Interdepartmental Tree Working Group (tree oversight committee); continued involvement in advancing the City's Climate Protection program via participation on the Community Plan development team (land use focus). - Broadly speaking, all duties require an intimate knowledge of City policy and procedures, the ability to prepare effective documents and presentations for decision-makers and to creatively engage the residents of Austin in various community workshops and forums.

- Developed a research proposal and received funding to produce a set of recommendations identifying opportunities for the DVBIA to advocate for a streamlined development permitting process and business licensing system in the City of Vancouver. - Research required developing a thorough knowledge of Vancouver's development permitting and business licensing system, as well as a review and evaluation of innovative solutions designed to streamline such systems in Canada and beyond.

- Organized and conducted semi-structured interviews designed to gather data essential to the development of a city-focused research publication on Multi-Level Governance Relations in; - Gained insight and perspective on relations between government officials at the federal, provincial and local levels. The research focused on two high-profile infrastructure projects in Vancouver: 2010 Olympics and the Canada Line rapid transit expansion.

Office of Planning and Quality Growth, Education and Marketing Section - Assisted local governments and local elected officials with complex planning challenges by contributing to the development of several initiatives: Quality Growth Resource Teams, a web- based Quality Growth Toolkit, and a Quality Growth Audit tool. This collection of quality growth assistance programs received the U.S. EPA Smart Growth Achievement Award (for Educational Programs) in 2004. Additional efforts included coordinating multiple Community Planning Institutes and acting as staff liaison for the Georgia Quality Growth Partnership. - Created and organized planning materials for publication and dissemination, including a series of informational fliers about quality growth assistance resources, success story case studies and quality growth tool write-ups. Additional efforts included taking a hands-on role in the development of State Planning Recommendations and Recommended Plan Implementation Measures. - Planned and facilitated the development of marketing communications, including project management, content management, site architecture and interface design of two websites: georgiaqualitygrowth.com and georgiaplanning.com. The quality growth site won recognition as U.S. Department of Energy's website of the week shortly after redesign.

- Developed and maintained multiple GIS projects designed to support and inform the development of various transportation planning projects. - Assisted with public involvement activities on a project basis; projects included a Transit Feasibility Study, an Economic Development Study, a Corridor Management Plan for a National Scenic Byway and various Comprehensive Transportation Plans.

- Developed and implemented a GIS for Spalding County and assisted in the development of database applications at the county level.
