About Deena Agree
At the age of 65, instead of retiring, I decided to start a new career. I went back to school, obtained my Master of Social Work degree, and have been working as a therapist ever since. First I worked under the wonderful supervision of Lauren Allswede at North Star Wellness Center. Then, after completing my 2 years of supervision I opened my own practice, Insight Therapy. I have found counseling to be incredibly rewarding. I love all of my clients - from the energetic and turbulent young undergrads at MSU to the older women who have decided that now is the time to take control of their lives and move forward to a happier one. Starting at this age as a therapist has had exciting, if unanticipated, benefits for both me and my clients. I am fresh and enthusiastic as a beginner in this field. But I have lived a long time and my extensive life experience gives me insight into the many, and varied, issues that bring my clients into therapy.

I work with all of my students to develop a strong foundation of musical skills, preparing them to attain fluency and express themselves through music.I have been teaching since college until the present, with a brief break from 1993-2000, when I moved to New York and worked in the field of pastry.If you go to YouTube and search my name and you will find many videos where you can directly observe me teaching. These are videos that I make for my students for their use at home between lessons to help them learn the pieces or techniques that I have assigned to them.Although I recently obtained my Master of Social Work and have begun to work as a therapist, I am also continuing to maintain my piano studio. I love teaching piano too much to stop! For me, being both a mental health professional and a piano teacher provides a wonderful life balance. I feel very lucky to be able to maintain both practices.
