Project Title: Numerical Simulation of Direct injection compression ignition engine (Diesel Engine-CaterPillar) using CONVERGE CFD codeKeywords: CFD, CONVERGE CFD, EnSight, Exhaust Emissions from Automobiles (NOx, COx, Soot)Objective: The objective of the work was to identify the optimal engine operating parameters for maximum performance and minimal exhaust emissions using CONVERGE CFD toolHighlights:• CFD Simulation and investigation of CI Engine combustion using CONVERGE. • Understanding the effect of the Compression Ratio, Injection Pressure, Injection Timing and amount of EGR on NOx and Cox emission and integrated heat released• Benchmarking of the simulation results with the experimental results from literature• Finding the optimum value of above mentioned parameters and using Design for Optimization• These parameters were varied to achieve minimum NOx emission, without compromising with the engine performance at certain speed.• Proposed new engine configured with the optimized parameters and compared the performance and emission characteristics with the benchmark engine
