The role requires coverage of critical Information Systems implemented by the Union Government and State Governments in India, as well as Central and State Public Sector Enterprises.

The Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IAAD) is headed by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.The audit of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) of the Union of India is conducted by 10 field Offices of the IAAD, each of which is headed by the Principal Director of Commercial Audit of the concerned geographic region.This role carried with it responsibility for Audit of Maharatna, Navratna and Miniratna category CPSEs, including BHEL, NTPC, NMDC, HPCL, PGCIL, KIOCL, NHAI, HMT, BMRCL, AAI and AIL. Audit of Central Autonomous Bodies with commercial nature of operations, including Tobacco Board, Coffee Board and Central Silk Board.
