Deepal Patel is a Program Coordinator at Eastern Virginia Medical School in the Community Health and Research Division. During Deepal’s time at EVMS she has worked with the Summer Scholar’s program in conjunction with the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. The program is a competitive 10-week summer research program for first year medical students, senior undergraduate students and graduate level students. In this role, she has worked with mentors and reviewed and edited their project applications, reviewed hundreds of student applications, offered acceptances to students and matched students to projects that best aligned with their interests. Additionally, she has planned didactic lecture schedules, aims & goals presentations, shadowing experiences, and edited abstracts and posters for students. Some of her other responsibilities include assisting junior faculty with their research. Prior to joining the Community Health and Research Division at EVMS, Deepal was an intern in the Medical Education Department at EVMS. During her time there, she coordinated rotations for third and fourth year medical students as well as residents at Western Tidewater Free Clinic, administered patient satisfaction surveys at WTFC, wrote annual grant renewal reports for WTFC, and worked with medical students to create budgets and plan events for HOPES Free Clinic. In 2015, Deepal graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Business with a concentration in Human Resource Management and a minor in Medicine and Society. In 2018, Deepal graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School with a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in Healthcare Management and a certificate in Epidemiology. She was also inducted into the Delta Omega Honorary Society.
