About Deepshikha Chatterjee

If there’s one thing I have always wanted to achieve in and through my career, it’s been to work alongside people who bring value to me and the society. I consider myself privileged to land in the development sector. It’s a place of meaning, change, flexibility and personal growth. My interests lie at the intersection of public health, sexual and gender rights, sustainability and climate change. Careers are winding journeys and before I came to the development sector, I spent over 10 years in media. I had the opportunity to work with some of the biggest broadcasters in the country, including NDTV, Times Television Network and Network18. In addition to working with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. I spent a decade working on a variety of roles and functions including script writing, video production and direction, content development, brand solutions and content strategy. I have been writing since I was in primary school. My first byline was in The Hindustan Times when I was in grade 7. Fascinated by moving images, I had the privilege to pursue a childhood dream, professionally. Across a decade, most of my work went into win several national and International accolades, such as screening at the Children’s Film Festival held in Lahore, Pakistan (Fat Chance), bronze at Promax Asia (Every Life Counts), National Water Awards (Mission Swachhta Aur Paani), among many others. I was among the 12 students selected from all across India for the coveted screenplay writing program at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). As part of my academic pursuits, my published research papers have focused on issues of public policy and citizen engagement, including examining laws of sedition against Binayak Sen (as part of media, law and governance) and Political Mobilisation in the times of Social Media: As a tool of political critique, analysing Trends, slacktivism and building a conscious civil society (as part of my masters dissertation). My graduation film, 140 Characters, documented stories of individuals who used twitter, now X, in its early days to create social impact. An audio documentary that I made, part of the first semester at AJK MCRC, chronicled the Kashmiri Pandit Exodus and was played on Radio Sharda 90.4, Kashmir's first community radio station. My thesis film, Tazkiyaan delved into the intricacies of human relationships. I hold a Masters degree in Mass Communication from AJK MCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia and a Bachelors in Mass Media and Mass Communication from Indraprastha College For Women, Delhi University.
