I have been working as a Senior Research Officer at Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka for over two years, leading and conducting studies on plant protection, nematology, and molecular biology. I have a total of 18 years of experience in tea research, having joined the institute as a Research Officer in 2005. I hold a PhD in Plant Protection and a Master's degree in Plant Protection Technology from Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya. I am also a Chartered Biologist, a prestigious recognition of my professional excellence and ethical standards in the field of biology.My research focuses on finding sustainable and effective solutions to the challenges facing the tea industry, such as pests, diseases, climate change, and quality issues. I have developed and applied innovative methods and techniques to diagnose, monitor, and control tea plant nematodes, which are a major threat to tea productivity and quality. I have also used molecular tools to characterize and identify tea plant pathogens and to improve tea plant resilience and diversity. I have contributed to the advancement of knowledge and practice in the field of tea science, by publishing multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at international conferences. I am passionate about collaborating with other researchers, stakeholders, and communities to enhance the value and reputation of Sri Lankan tea.
