I have spent many years working in public libraries and have learned so much while earning my MLIS. I am extremely passionate about public libraries and one of my professional focuses is in highlighting the value of libraries and library services in the community. I love to connect community members with library services and reach those who might not be connected yet. I also strongly believe that promotion of the library and library materials is essential to making the best use of our resources--be it in creating consistently updated displays or using social media to build a dynamic library personality with which people engage!I have interned at the Sherwood Public Library and was involved with projects such as creating marketing materials to highlight library collections and developing some awesome children's programs. I have worked as a library assistant at multiple public libraries and can say that I genuinely love helping and working with the public. Connecting with people is foundational in all of my library work. I also work as a reference librarian in both children's and the adult services. I love both! Helping families and children in the library is one of my absolute favorite niches, and the children's room is also a place that I utilize my creativity and craftiness to develop crafts for kids and create large scale seasonal displays in the children's room! Reader's advisory is another favorite skill that I put into practice for all ages, and I utilize resources such as Novelist when I need some additional help with recommendations.There are many professional skills that I practiced while earning my MLIS, and which I am anxious to use professionally, such as creating, implementing, and assessing library programming; collection development and management; outreach in the community; and marketing library materials/services both in the library and in the community. I know that I will be a passionate and creative addition as a professional level readers services and/or outreach librarian...I am full of ideas and am ready to work collaboratively with a great library team!
