About Deirdre Burke

I am a part-time student at UMass Lowell mastering in Electrical Engineering while working at Raytheon as a Hardware Design Engineer I part-time as well. I'm set to graduate in Summer 2025.I worked as an electrical engineering intern at Raytheon this summer in the Receiver Exciter and Backend Processing department, before converting to part-time in late August. Previously, I conducted research at my university for 2 semesters: designing and testing wind turbine sensors (Spring 2024) and on the security of ad-hoc wireless networks (Fall 2022). I've had 2 previous internships as well: embedded systems at BAE (Summer 2023) and data science at Onto Innovation (Summer 2022).

    I worked for the Receiver Exciter and Backend Processing Department this summer. I printed and designed PCB test fixtures to test the components at frequencies of interest, debugging the copper plotter in the process. To complete the test fixtures, I soldered components, greatly improving my soldering skills in the process. I also tuned several filters using Keysight Advanced Design Systems (ADS). I used an eval kit to grab various parameters of an amplifier (SFDR, SNR) and produce FFTs. Lastly, I helped debug radar kits (Arduino + RPi) used in a hands-on course for employees.

    I wrote a C program utilizing over 88% of the microprocessor's functionality.     I worked as a data scientist in the back end performing preprocessing of data with Python on a variety of datatypes which is packaged and heavily tested. Hence, my package has full code coverage, easy interfacing, and extensive documentation and comments. Through this internship, I became proficient with Docker containers and have working knowledge of Azure DevOps and Git as well. I used popular libraries such as Pandas, Numpy, and Scikit-Learn as well.
