Appointed Director of Institutional Marketing & Communications at the Charlotte Symphony (CSO), Deirdre Roddin is responsible for furthering the public image and increasing awareness of the orchestra’s onstage performances and robust education and community engagement initiatives. Prior to joining the CSO, Ms. Roddin served in the Communications Department of the New York Philharmonic where she played a key role in the launch of seven Philharmonic seasons and managed media for over 20 star-studded galas, while promoting the orchestra’s weekly concerts, headline-making premieres, and worldwide tours. Her tenure included helping to plan and execute the appointments of Jaap van Zweden as Music Director and Deborah Borda as President and CEO, and the announcement of the plans for the reimagination of David Geffen Hall. Ms. Roddin personally oversaw the creation of a New York Philharmonic Star Wars Day on-sale celebration on May the Fourth, and amplified the year-long New World Initiative, which united New York City amateur, semiprofessional, and professional choristers and instrumentalists through performances — including with the New York Philharmonic — of Dvořák’s New World Symphony. Her strategic, multifaceted media campaigns regularly secure coverage in widely read publications, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Prior to joining the Philharmonic, Ms. Roddin worked for Shuman Associates, a Manhattan-based boutique classical music public relations firm. She studied music theory and composition, and holds an M.A. from Long Island University.
