Point Reyes Station, California, United States

Worked in freshwater streams in Point Reyes National Seashore, Muir Woods National Monument, and other areas of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Performed salmonid population monitoring via seining and electrofishing. Identified and cataloged all aquatic species present in streams. Executed live sample collection and implanted PIT tags in Steelhead trout and endangered Coho salmon. Transported juvenile Coho salmon to viable streams. Completed riparian restoration projects, including invasive species removal and native species planting. Conducted vegetation and quality surveys on previous restoration sites and provided recommendations. Surveyed potential salmonid habitat, recording water quality, stream width and depth, woody debris, etc. Carried out data quality assurance and control. Prepared blog posts for the Point Reyes National Seashore and Mosaics in Science (MIS) websites. Gave research presentation at MIS Career Workshop, attended by NPS officials.

Identified Black-chinned and Ruby-throated hummingbirds via sight and calls in a variety of environments across Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Obtained samples and measurements from live hummingbirds after capturing with drop nets, including blood, feathers, and nail clippings. Determined corrected environments to conduct behavioral trials and prepared necessary audio and visual equipment. Conducted trials independently.
