Ashmore Investment Management, Ltd. is a leading emerging market fund manager. I served as a member of the firm wide investment committee in the latter part of my tenure. The special situations and infrastructure team members were global including in Brazil, China, Colombia, India, Russia, and Turkey. At the highest level, my focus was largely on identifying special situations for corporates such as distressed credit opportunities, in addition to hybrid credit, private equity, privatizations, and leveraged buyouts. I helped create the Global Special Situations Fund concept and was involved in the raising and deployment of more than $3.5 billion in investments. This really initiated Ashmore’s push into alternative investments. I also vetted and monitored transactions for the Special Situations Investment Committee. During my tenure, the Special Situations Portfolio had more than $7 billion of equity investments across 100 funds and segregated accounts.
