When I first entered college, I wanted to be an English major. I crafted my first-year schedule according to that desire, but threw in a single coding class to get some variety. That single class lit a passion in me, and I changed my major to computer science - but I kept English as my minor.My love of language led me to focus on combining my writing talents with my coding experience. For me, coding has been the perfect blend of applied mathematics, problem-solving, and language. Every coding language out there has its own unique grammar and syntax, and in my mind, they function as computer-specific dialects within the English language. I have a particular passion for telling stories in coding, which culminated in one of my major class projects: creating a text-based adventure game from the ground up. I am especially versed in Java (one of my favorite challenges in computer science is understanding object-oriented programming within the framework of coding as a language), with experience in Python and C as well.In addition to the computer science classes I have taken at Colorado College, I also have experience at the college working as a peer tutor in the Ruth Barton Writing Center, as a manager and captain of the women's club ice hockey team, and as a supervisor for intramural ice hockey and broomball. My time as a tutor has allowed me to develop collaborative problem-solving skills so that I can tailor every tutoring session to fit the needs of my client. As a club captain and intramural supervisor, I have learned how to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines without becoming overwhelmed. I am eager to gain more experience in different coding languages, and I have been working with online resources on my own time in addition to my classwork to broaden my understanding of Java, JavaScript, C, and Python, as well as to branch out into other languages. Every new language, every new environment, is an opportunity for me to learn, adapt, and improve.
