From a very early age, I knew I wanted to go into an engineering field. I always loved math and science classes, and the moment I learned about engineering was the moment I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I began taking STEM classes in middle and high school, and those classes, along with my love for Chemistry and Biology, are what lead me to pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Carolina. During my time at the University, I have joined Dr. Cameron McCarthy’s lab at the USC School of Medicine as an undergraduate research assistant. Dr. McCarthy’s lab studies mechanisms that contribute to vascular deterioration in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Additionally, I work as a peer tutor for the USC Student Success Center where I provide support for various calculus and organic chemistry courses.Outside of engineering, I’m highly involved in the Carolina Marching Band and Basketball Pep Band where I play the saxophone. As a member of these ensembles, I’ve had the opportunity to travel around the country to perform for and support our athletic teams. Additionally, I am a member of Kappa Kappa Psi - National Honorary Band Fraternity, where I serve as the chapter’s treasurer. Through my position as treasurer, I’ve learned many skills including budgeting and team work. Through my roles in the Carolina Band and Kappa Kappa Psi, I’ve had the opportunity to develop my leadership skills by supporting those around me and guiding others towards a similar goal.I hope to apply the skills I’ve learned through undergraduate research, peer tutoring, my involvement in music, and my engineering degree to continue my education and pursue a career in Forensic Biology.
