I am a third year Bachelor of Landscape Architecture student working toward a minor in Urban Planning, with certificates in Urban & Metropolitan Studies and Sustainability from the University of Georgia. I have recently completed neighborhood design studio, site engineering, and sustainability classes, and I have enjoyed learning how sustainability can help design projects become more cost-effective and ecologically resilient. Through an Issues and Practices in Sustainable Design course, I took the LEED Green Associate exam and became an accredited LEED Green Associate to further my training and qualifications in green design.I am passionate about urban green space and community gardens, as well as effective and accessible public transportation. In the past, I have volunteered at a community garden and worked at a greenhouse, where I learned the more functional aspects of planting design, and I have enjoyed bridging the gap between the practical and aesthetic. Prominent voices in ecology, landscape architecture, and urban planning such as Darrel Morrison, Aldo Leopold, and Jane Jacobs have shaped my drive to design infrastructures that best serve local communities and ecosystems. This past summer, I had the opportunity to become entrenched in the world of public horticulture through an internship at Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison, Wisconsin. This experience has expanded my knowledge of plants and instilled a passion for green space as a resource for the public as well as pollinators and urban wildlife. This fall, I will be interning at the UGA Office of Sustainability in a partnership between the office and local nonprofit Concrete Jungle. Through this internship, I will work with local farmers to collect produce to donate back to the community. I am thrilled to begin working in the nonprofit and food systems fields and serve the Athens area in fighting food insecurity. In the future, I plan to pursue a Master’s degree in Urban Planning, with the intent to specialize in community development and transportation.
