I've been teaching for 14 years at a various schools around Darwin and now Alice Springs. My previous students are now stopping me in the street or at a cafe to introduce their babies and partners. I am so overwhelmed with pride and admiration for their success both personally and professionally. Some are mechanics, lawyers, butchers, horticulturist, doctors, nurses, teachers, business owners and police officers. Teaching young people is one of the most important and honourable professions in the world. It has the greatest impact on their future, just a conversation can change their outcome or actually showing compassion can save them from a very dark future. Therefore, my choice to became a teacher was the most important decision of my life and it's an honour when they choose to share their success with me. Respect is earned not given! Thank you parents for entrusting teachers to educate and thank you students for putting your trust and faith in me.From 2017-2022 I was lecturing at Batchelor Institute/Charles Darwin University in the Preparation for Tertiary Success program, providing essential academic skills for Indigenous adults to pursue their studies at university. It was an amazing journey that enable me to teach the parents of the Indigenous students and be part of their educational journey to achieve success in their careers. Thus, providing the opportunity to gain good study habits, commitments, learning strategies and motivation to achievement both in Indigenous knowledges and Western ideologies . My grandmother, Elsie Holtze said to me 'Being Aboriginal you never get a day off, so your community will be the one to always remind you who you are and make you accountable'. And I AM EVERYDAY!
