Through One Health Workforce|Next Generation, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) works through university networks to strengthen workforce capacities in Africa and Southeast Asia to prepare for, prevent, detect, and respond to public health emergencies of greatest concern, including infectious disease with an emphasis on zoonosis and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) health threats. OHW-NG builds on more than 15 years of USAID investments in promoting a multisectoral, One Health capacities to address infectious disease threats before they pose an overwhelming pandemic threat. OHW-NG continues 10-years of USAID support for partnerships between universities in developed countries with universities in select African and Southeast Asian countries to implement long-term changes in how health workforces function. The global consortium of experts is led by UC Davis and includes several academic partners to support the work of AFROHUN and SEAOHUN.

The UC Irvine Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) under the Clinical and Translational Sciences Award (CTSA) program. Currently, there are more than 50 medical research institutions throughout the United States that receive CTSA program funding. Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, Office of International Health and Biodefense. Dele Ogunseitan was a Jefferson Science Fellow in OES/IHB, where he shared his expertise and support to the U.S. Department of State’s international action plans to reduce risks posed by the proliferation of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens. The "Antimicrobial Lifecycle Mapping" project aimed to develop tools enabling low-infrastructure community strategies to map antimicrobial sources, sinks, and consequences. Such maps are crucial for raising awareness of the threats posed by antimicrobial resistance, and developing consensus to mitigate the global threat and to reduce the burden of illness and death due to resistant pathogens. Through this work and related projects, Dele supported IHB teams charged with implementing the President’s Global Health Security Agenda and the institutionalization of Pandemic Response strategies within the Department of State.
