Research Scientist And Program Manager
In the managerial role in the Neurology Department, Division of Movement Disorders, I oversee biospecimens collection, processing and analysis, as well as operation of wetlab activities in the Khurana Lab. Specifically, I direct the operation of the Harvard Biomarkers Study (HBS) in its new chapter, with possible interface with other Biomarkers initiative. This includes exciting and enriching partnering opportunities with other academic and industry entities in the Boston area and beyond. The scientific role involves basic and translational studies related to Parkinson’s disease and related disorders, including a dynamic research portfolio involving assay development in cellular models, as well as the development and testing of therapeutics. These projects will ideally involve material (including derivative human stem cells) generated form patients followed in the Movement Division and could culminate in innovative clinical trials.

The Research Scientist position at The Neurogenomics Lab and APDA Center for Advanced Parkinson Research, Department of Neurology, drives research projects scientifically and operationally. I played a leading role in taking the Harvard Biomarkers study into its next phase with expansions including, new study arms and new biomarkers modalities. I lead work with our collaborators, as well as our clinical study coordinators, database manager, and biospecimens manager. I managed the PD5D Multi-PI program project focused on mapping the single cell circuits of Parkinson Disease. Additionally, I also contributed to the scientific literature, reports, journals, and presentations. Furthermore, the position ultimately lead to becoming an active contributor to the scientific strategies of the Laboratory, as I played a leadership role by acting as subject matter expert in the field.

Schlossmacher laboratory - The university of Ottawa Brain and Mind InstituteMy research in the Schlossmacher laboratory focused on early-onset familial Parkinson disease:A redox chemistry-based function for Parkinson disease-linked parkin confers direct, anti-oxidant activities in mammalian brain.I investigated the parkin protein's function in human brains, specifically its contribution to midbrain dopaminergic neurons' survival. I used different models, from recombinant human Parkin protein, isolated in the lab, to cellular and mouse models. The goal is to shed light on the essential function of Parkin in neuroprotection, which ultimately will help us develop a novel mouse model for early-onset Parkinsonism, that would display behaviour and biochemical phenotypes akin to what we see in patients, which is currently lacking in the field. These novel models would get us closer to developing better cause-directed therapies.
