Over the years that I have been in school, living in Orlando, in Portland, in Philadelphia, and in Tokyo, I have explored many different interests I have, attempting to pin down one as my way of life, my career. What I have come to realize is that all of my interests combine and complement one another to make me both a broadly-skilled individual and a specialist whose expertise and passion make them the best at what they do.My interest in Japanese Culture, brought on by my love of anime during my childhood, has now flourished into a scholarly desire to bring understanding to others through articles, teaching, YouTube, or whatever means necessary. My natural talent for grasping the Japanese language can be put to use as a private tutor or college instructor, but it can also be used to bring people together from opposite sides of the Pacific. My desire to write my own stories, bring my characters to life, and inspire others with tales of fantastic worlds with "real" people and issues that cross the boundaries between reality and fantasy and provide readers with a sense of hope, burns as brightly as ever. Now, however, I realize that my creativity can also be put to use in bridging the language gap that prevents preexisting tales from reaching as many as they could. While there are many ways to use these interests to forge a career, combining my passion for Japanese Culture and Creative Writing leads me to one path, Localization. I understand the difficulty of translating not just the words but the intent and cultural weight behind them into a different culture and language that may not have the words necessary. I understand the constraints localization teams work under with regards to preexisting footage, lip-sync issues, and more, leading to lost meaning. I believe that a creative mind is necessary to overcome these challenges and bring, not just a product, but an experience to fans.
