Dennis McGrath Design, LLC., is a design and architectural consulting practice focused on integrated service design for a variety of project types since 2015. I have over 20 years experiences with a passion for design, creative problem solving overseeing client interactive planning, programming and phasing for complex assignments.My architectural experience covers a range of work including, civic, residential, workplace, performing arts, libraries and learning environments, both educational and corporate. I focus on client expectations and partner with expert consultants to create architecture as innovative as the people, or institutions I engage.I have worked for Lawrence Group, Target Corporation, Ellerbe Becket (AECOM), and MSR Design. My work has received AIA honors and preservation awards from the state of Minnesota and Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission. I have published illustrations for ABC of Architecture, University of Pennsylvania Press, and received a Charles E. Peterson Prize for measured drawings archived at the Library of Congress.

Education Practice

I exhibit passion and energy through design leadership. My role focuses on the creation and delivery of new architecture for a range of building types including, learning environments, libraries, and branded spaces for corporate training, and collegiate facilities. For six years I helped co-create and lead the education practice at Lawrence Group which focused a team of talented professionals on providing the best experience in project delivery tailored to the assignment at hand. Through all phases of a project we created architecture that met evolving needs. We created environments that kept pace with the evolution of educational demands with respect to pedagogy, planning, project development, and design for all our clients. I believe successful projects require the integration of client-identity that deliver mission-compatible solutions from the inception of design, sought by each individual client, board, or organization.

Senior Design Project Architect, Integral to the launch and growth of the Unique Store Design-Architecture team focusing on large scale urban mixed-use developments. Managed unique projects totaling $175 Million in development and construction.Some projects that define the team include:East Harlem Target. Target’s first Manhattan, NY store.The Junction -- Brooklyn College Target, Brooklyn, NY. Target’s first ever self-developed new construction project. The store is a 2 level sales floor above neighborhood retail at ground level with attached parking garage. Opened March 2008 Glendale Galleria Target, Glendale, CA the first 3 level sales floor in operation. Opened July 2007

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Joined CHA in 1997 as a Project Designer; promoted to Senior Associate in January of 2000. Played a key role in the growth and recognition of the firm developing new client relations including Compass, CBS Marketwatch, and the City of Wayzata. Served as Project Manager and Designer for the Wayzata Library, Police Department and City Hall. In 1998, Compass received an AIA Minnesota Honor Award.

As a Project Manager/Designer with the Minneapolis firm of Meyer Scherrer & Rockcastle, Ltd. [MS&R] worked on private residences, library buildings, and Institutional work throughout the country.MS&R is a dynamic, artistic, unexpected design firm. The three founding principals established the firm around a shared belief that architects should be responsive to clients while creating innovative design. The trio quickly built an international reputation for contextual, layered, thoughtful design that reacts to specific situations (versus design solutions steeped in an instantly identifiable style).MS&R is a teaching practice, actively mentoring the next generation of designers. All three founding principals are academics, and they encourage staff to teach as well.

Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) and the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) collections are among the largest and most heavily used in the Library of Congress. The collections document achievements in architecture, and engineering in the United States and its territories through a comprehensive range of building types, and engineering technologies.Administered since 1933 through cooperative agreements with the National Park Service, the Library of Congress, and the private sector, ongoing programs of the National Park Service have recorded America's built environment in multi-format surveys comprising more than 556,900 measured drawings, large-format photographs, and written histories for more than 38,600 historic structures and sites dating from Pre-Columbian times to the twentieth century.
