I was working for Sisk's as part of their Summer Internship Programme. This programme has been developed for student engineers to apply their college knowledge to real life scenarios. I am working in the Sisk Living division on a project in Kilmacud where an old house is being partially preserved and converted into apartments, and two new build apartment blocks made of up 50 apartments are being constructed. Working on site is a really great experience as I am learning so much about my future role as a Structural Engineer. It has been very beneficial to see how sites are run and how engineers interact with all those on site. We are also given the opportunity through this internship to get an insight into other characters in the construction industry through day release to other departments including -the temporary works department -joinery center-pre-construction department as well as learning whats comes with the roles of a- quality engineer -safety officer -quantity surveyor -and services engineer. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. I felt the benefits of spending 3 months on-site during my final year of college. Especially for subjects such as Scheme Design.I have also obtained my Manual Handling and Safe Pass through this internship.

I taught kids and adults how to swim, as well as being a lifeguard, as a part time job while in college. This role developed my organisational and management skills as large groups of children can be hard to manage, especially with the added risk of weak swimmers in deep water. My observation skills have also improved as I had to be fully aware of what is happening in all areas of the pool. From this role I have also obtained some qualifications including First Aid and attending a Child Protection course in June 2018. I was also Garda Vetted before starting work.

This busy bistro helped me to develop a knack for working under pressure. I also learned how to interact with awkward customers and their requests with a smile on my face, giving me the ability to defuse sticky situations with ease. I built up good relationships with regular customers, improving my people skills. Here, I was trusted with large sums of cash and also received Barista training.

This was my first paying job that I worked in for the last few months of 6th year and the summer after. This job helped build my confidence and interpersonal skills. I worked in one of Capital Foods establishments in Blackrock called Barkers, but my role came to an end when it was shut down in September 2016.

As part of Transition Year, every Thursday I had to do work experience. For my work experience I worked in an architects office. I have always been interested in construction which has led me to my career path today. I was taught how to use computer programmes such as Sketch-Up while based in this office, as well as getting an insight into how architects work.
