The project introduced the concepts of hardware component acquisition, assembly, and integration. Specifically, the project utilized a high-speed optical ICCD camera, argon ion laser, photo multiplier, and a uniform flat flame burner to acquire radiation emissions of controlled burning particles. The measured emissions identify surface properties of the particles such as temperature, agglomeration, porosity, density, and fractal surface dimension. The project was funded by the US Army.
