About Dena Saunders

I am a 20 year veteran of secondary education in Texas with my primary focus in US History. I am a 2 time Teacher of the Year recipient from 2 different districts and a finalist in a 3rd district. I have been told repeatedly by my students, peers, and leadership that I have the heart of a teacher. The lowest passing rate on the US History STAAR (EOC) in my career has been 98%. I specialize in working with struggling learners and those with testing anxiety. I have been a member of Curriculum Writing Teams, a Department Chair (2 separate campuses), Mentor, Team Lead, and Professional Development Presenter. I have created and led teacher professional development, such as; “New Hire” Coordinator, “The Organized Classroom - Building Relationships”, “To Infinity and Beyond…Notes”, and “Teaching Beyond the Facts.”I am an extremely organized individual who uses data-driven decisions to influence my teaching. I am a planner who will also research best practices and fully believe we are successful when we learn with and through others. That applies to the students in my classes as well as to educators we teach with. Working with and learning from our cohorts is an integral part of being a successful educator of any kind.
