Deneine Christa Powell is a nonprofit executive and a climate solutions expert with over 20 years of experience in environmental conservation, policy advocacy, and community engagement. As the Environmental and Climate Program Director at the African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs, she leads the development and implementation of innovative program strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote community-driven solutions in under-served and vulnerable areas.Deneine is a passionate advocate for a human-centered approach, one that prioritizes the protection of the rights of the most vulnerable populations. She firmly believes that the responsibilities and benefits associated with addressing the climate crisis should be distributed equitably and justly.Prior to joining the Alliance, Deneine served as the National Director of Path to Positive Communities, a program under ecoAmerica. In this capacity, she provided invaluable guidance, developed essential skills, supported impactful projects, and facilitated critical conversations among local and regional leaders, all aimed at maximizing the benefits of climate solutions. Her ability to inspire civic leaders and residents to endorse solutions at the local, regional, and national levels was instrumental in advancing the cause.Deneine also held the role of Executive Director for Groundwork Milwaukee, an organization with a mission to enhance the natural and built environments of underserved communities. Her work focused on achieving a delicate balance between environmental sustainability, fairness, and civic engagement, with remarkable results.Beyond her professional commitments, Deneine is deeply dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment and conservation efforts. She proudly serves as Vice President of the Board for Groundwork USA and as Board Treasurer for Milwaukee Water Commons. In addition to her work in environmental preservation, Deneine travels extensively across the country, attending and speaking at water conferences, clean economy convenings, environmental justice summits, and climate meetings. Her goal is not only to gain knowledge and motivation but also to inspire others to take action.Outside of her professional endeavors, Deneine finds immense joy in spending quality time with her husband, their son and daughter, and their beloved dog and two cats. They can often be found in the garden of their home in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, enjoying the simple pleasures of life.
