I worked as a support pharmacist in Lloyds Pharmacy, Hollyhill for a period of nineteen months. It was a challenging time as we had to work through the beginnings of the COVID 19 pandemic, also having to deal with staffing issues etc. which required me to migrate into a new position in the store, however I found the experience that I gained during that time to be invaluable and look forward to using that knowledge and skills going forward in my career.

During my time here, I was able to build upon my previous experience working in other pharmacies in order to develop the skills needed to be an effective pharmacy manager in the community setting. As time progressed I started to imagine what I would do in scenarios where I was alone with no one there to advise me, e.g. more unusual scenarios that I had not seen before. I also began to develop relationships with regular patients that I would see often during this period and this greatly improved my job satisfaction.

Although I was only there for a relatively short time, I learned a great deal at Costigan’s. It was a large, busy pharmacy dealing mostly in prescription items with less OTC products sold. Overtime I was able to devise a personal system for dealing with busy or stressful periods during the work day, and with the help of my colleagues was able to get through the heavy work load. It was here I also saw the importance of dividing the work between employees and delegating to other members of staff whenever necessary.
