When I started a welding business in 1970, many years ago, I started with one portable welding truck. When my business grew to 3 portable units, I approached a large welding supplier for discounts on my supplies, in which their response was, “I wasn’t big enough for discounts”. After some time, I became the largest portable welding company in Canada with 31 owned portable units and 91 sub contracted portable welders. As fate would have it, the large welding supplier that I had approached years before now wanted my business… funny how things change. My growth in the industry was quick and fruitful but I never forgot what it was like to be the little fish (so to speak). I have always tried to accommodate the small business, as I know how hard it is to start with just a dream.
