Quality Control Laboratory

My position involves managing the daily workflow of the HPRA accredited processing laboratory: -Analytical/cell culture techniques in a sterile quality controlled cleanroom (QC laboratory)-Assisted reproduction techniques.-Perform laboratory based evaluation of semen.-Prepare semen, in accordance with agreed protocols, for insemination of patients or insemination as part of IVF/ICSI treatment.-Cryopreserve semen samples obtained from patients at ultra-low temperatures (ULT) (thawing ofsuch samples for use in treatment cycles).-Keep the clinical database updated with patient records and information.-Liase with Consultants and patients on matters concerning diagnosis and treatment of infertility.-Liase with nursing staff to arrange timing for collection of sperm samples for preparation, IUI or donor IUI insemination.-Participate in the development and implementation of laboratory protocols when necessary.-Oversee activity and operation of all Waterstone Clinic andrology outreach clinics-Carry out internal auditing of patient data logging and sperm storage in compliance with HPRA directives on Tissues & Cells; 2004/23/EC, 2006/86/EC, SI 158 & SI 598• Internal auditing of patient data logging and sperm storage in compliance • Checking certification, validation and approval of received media/consumables.I was also involved in clinical research, investigating the role of sperm DNA fragmentation and infertility.-Identify and recruit couples for DNA Fragmentation.-Cryopreserve aliquots of semen samples in accordance with SPZ labs and QUB criteria.-Monitor and track clinical outcomes for IUI couples.-Correlate sperm DNA damage parameters with the clinical results.-Ensure the safe and proper storage of semen samples.-Undertake and maintain an efficient system of validation for all laboratory equipment.

Presenting students with background to the experiment as well as aiding them in their completion of the protocol. Gaining valuable experience in leadership, public speaking and interpersonal skills.

Quality Control Laboratory

-Acted as a laboratory technician in the Pathogen lab where various food products were tested for various pathogens including Listeria, e.coli, salmonella etc. -Prepared various media for testing of products according to agreed protocols. -Analysed results and logged all the data acquired in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). -Gained valuable experience in aseptic technique, teamwork skills and various aspects of GMP ( Good Manufacturing Process)-Worked as part of a multidisciplinary team where I gained valuable experience in teamwork and communication skills
