I am currently employed as a Direct Support Professional for Black Hills Works, one of the largest providers in the area for people with disabilities. I have specialized training for the Intensive Treatment Services rehabilitation program. I always joke that the jobs I have had prior were preparing me to be a rockstar DSP. No two days are exactly the same and I get to “wear a lot of different hats”. This has been great for me because I have so many interests.Prior employment engagements I have sought in preparation for my current role have been as an Orthodontic Assistant because a smile is the first thing we notice about one another. I worked as a Medical Assistant in a pain clinic to gain insight into the human condition at its best/worst and to rule out any future employment opportunities where I would cope with a health insurance company. My time spent as a Customer Service Representative over the phone taught me patience. Lastly, the vast amount of my knowledge has come from over 15 years in the restaurant service industry. This taught me that hard work can be the most rewarding. Also, being surrounded by food made me a very decent cook.
