Lead a team of two research associates to innovate a SNP-specific ultrafast PCR assay that could determine the zygosity of proprietary crop traits in under 15 minutes from sample to answer. The PCR step of the assay took 6 minutes and relied on novel preparation of primers that maintained SNP specificity while using a proof-reading high-processivity polymerase. This project required effective collaboration with the Engineering department to optimize this assay for our in-house designed fast PCR machine. Performed duties as outward-facing scientific contact to the agriculture company that contracted us to perform this study, writing the scope of work, data reports, and conducting regular progress report meetings.Lead a team of two research associates to create an RT-qPCR assay to quantitate miRNA in salivary exosomes.Lead a team of two research associates to create an RT-qPCR assay to quantitate relative expression of four genes involved in septic inflammation.Designed and optimized an RT-qPCR CoV-2 test to be used in Ontera’s proposed CLIA lab. Performed Clinical Validation and Verification studies on this test under the direction of our Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Modified several proximity-ligation qPCR assays that quantitate blood antibody concentrations for compatibility with analysis on a solid-state nanopore sensor.Created a PCR assay to detect target mutations in cell-free DNA purified from urinary clinical samples.Successfully designed, expressed, and purified recombinant Hepatitis C Virus coat protein to use in proof-of-concept immunocapture assay compatible with analysis on a solid-state nanopore sensor.
