About Denise Woods

Denise Woods leads the firm's Employee Benefit Plan Audit practice. After an early start in oil and gas audit, Denise quickly recognized the potential of benefit plan audits as a growing field of specialization. She became an early advocate in that field, playing an integral part in the growth and success of Arthur Andersen’s and KPMG’s benefit plan audit practices.Warm and congenial, Denise brings the structure and confidence needed to improve plan management, ensure compliance and build efficient controls. She leads the firm's training efforts for the audit and attest practice and has developed and taught benefit plan training both internally for Weinstein Spira and nationally for AGN International. Denise takes an active role in the management of the firm especially in the areas relating to quality control. She is an innovative teacher, making her a superb coach and mentor to growing Weinstein Spira professionals and a resolute sounding board to her colleagues.After earning her Bachelor of Accounting in 1994 from Texas A&M University, Denise moved to Houston where she started her career with Arthur Andersen. In 2002, she joined KPMG and in 2006, she found her true home at Weinstein Spira. She is the firm's Audit Director for employee benefit plans and has served as an ERISA Core Team Leader with AGN International since 2007.Denise and her husband, Michael, have two sons, Ryan and Connor. Whether she is out fishing with her boys or volunteering at their school, Denise loves creating memories for her family and friends. She is a creative amateur photographer and a crafter extraordinaire.
