  • Atlantis Adventures
Director Of Cruise Ship Operations & Product Development At Atlantis Adventures
    Atlantis Adventures Aug 2001 - 2016
    Hawaii, United States
Atlantis Adventures, established since 1985, is one of the world’s largest passenger submarine tour operators and carried 12 million passengers, and counting, as of 2018.In 2001 Atlantis Adventures Hawaii recognized an opportunity to develop and set up tours to a developing cruise ship market in Hawaii. I led this start up. Initial goals were to develop and design shore excursion programs in all the Hawaiian ports using third party tour operators. This involved defining a sales and marketing plan, design, development and implementation of new tour products, setting up an operating model, building a team, on-site logistical coordination, financial planning, creating and implementing policies and procedures which differed from the Atlantis Adventures standard model. My existing relationship with the cruise line executives and knowledge of the cruise industry enabled me to quickly develop unique, valuable and quality tours that were well received by the cruise lines and their guests. This catered to the changing demographic profile of the typical cruise ship guest and expanded the cruise lines’ on-board programs. I am always looking for ways to seize new business opportunities, which led me to provide a new service organizing World Cruise Events. This involved everything from creation and development of varying size event concepts, coordinating all aspects leading up to the event and executing the events.Exceeded all targets and goals set for the end of the first year of operation. The Shore Excursion Program is now being offered by all major cruise lines calling to the Hawaiian Islands with a turnover of $8 Million. I was responsible for maximizing revenue and profits for the Cruise Operations Department of Atlantis Adventures and future business opportunities. Subsequent goals were to own and operate new businesses and tour operations and leverage relationships to increase sales on the company core product.
  • Shorex International / Don Foster'S (Subsee) Ltd.
    General Manager
    Shorex International / Don Foster'S (Subsee) Ltd. Oct 1994 - Feb 2001
    Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
Don Foster’s (Subsee) Ltd., a subsidiary of ShorEx International, a large Pan-Caribbean Tour Operator, provided water and land-based tours to over 65,000 passengers per year earning in excess of $2 million in gross revenue. As General Manager, responsibilities were numerous and diverse, but included; complete accountability for all revenues and expenditures; responsibility of 18 full time staff plus many more sub-contractors and agents; overseeing relationships with cruise line and hotel executives; development and implementation of local sales and marketing campaigns; development and implementation of all of the business’ pivotal systems and procedural policies – ranging from logistical tour scheduling issues to the repair and maintenance schedule for the company’s vessels. Responsible for eight vessels including four semi-submersible submarines (Seaworld Explorer) and an authentic replica of a 18th century Spanish Galleon, the Jolly Roger. Most notable accomplishment was to increase profits by 68% over a two-year period. In addition to increasing sales, this was also achieved by identifying and implementing cost savings across the company to include reduced maintenance costs, assessment and reduction of overheads and overall management of expenses. In November 1998, when Atlantis Adventures bought ShorEx International, it was identified that the retail element of the operations was not performing to its full potential. I was given the challenge of improving retail revenues and profitability. I accomplished this by identifying the correct products for customers through understanding and observing the client base and their buying power, reconfiguring the retail outlet (1100 sq. ft or which 900 sq. ft was used for retail) and check-in facility layout to maximize space and improve functionality and seeking sales mediums and opportunities to increase retail revenues outside of the retail facility.
  • Baskin In The Sun

As General Manager, I was responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations, sales & marketing and financial management. Also responsible for all technical aspects of the SCUBA diving business, to include maintenance of all vessels and equipment. Successes included: the opening of a new retail outlet during my tenure which involved spearheading all stages of the project lifecycle from identifying suitable locations to the launch of the new retail site and ongoing management; increasing sales by determining market opportunities and identifying potential clients; raising company and product profile and building rapport with wholesalers and agents by attending tradeshows and designing and implementing marketing campaigns; improving customer service levels and therefore increasing repeat business by setting targets and monitoring standards.
