Our team worked to expand markets for Michigan-grown and -produced apple products, developed push- and pull-through promotions for retailers and consumers; contracted for research to improve quality and marketability; and educated folks on the benefits of Michigan Apples. Established significant social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and You Tube. Michigan is the nation's third-largest producer, and grows the tastiest apples!

Enjoyed working in private sector developing new products for large sales staff for greenhouse and garden centers; monitoring sales, gross margins and movement of massive product line; developed all promotional materials with creative staff; and served on sales management team. Particularly enjoyed viewing the transformation of this 85-year-old company to a new metrics-driven culture.

I had a fantastic work experience at the MDA engaging in crisis communications on food recalls, bovine TB and more, as well as publicizing the other wide-ranging responsibilities (gasoline to farm wells) of the Department. Worked on Uniform Food Code, the first comprehensive state food law update in decades. Liaison to Governor's Communications Office.

Joint apptmt to MDA and Mich. Jobs Commission to provide export assistance to 400+ client base. Educated food/ag companies on export opportunities; organized statewide trade missions and reverse trade missions; analyzed legislation; ran federal grant program; partnered with local, state, federal export agencies. Trade show presence for Michigan food companies.

Public relations for the State Dept. as well as Bureau of Automotive Regulation, Bureau of History inc. Mich. Historical Museum and all its satellites, Bureau of Elections. Drafted publications, newsletters and fielded reporters' calls.
