Biological Science Technician
CurrentI was promoted to provide health maintenance for laboratory animals, which included primates, rodents, rabbits, dogs, and fish. My responsibilities involved evaluating their water and feed, conducting sanitation sampling and testing, and assisting with study-related planning. I also prepared animals and samples for testing, observed the tests, and monitored their responses. It was my responsibility to ensure that operational procedures were followed accurately, and I had to complete daily tasks thoroughly. Collaboration with my colleagues and research investigators was a crucial part of our efforts to achieve departmental goals.Select Achievements:Significantly increased colony health and decreased atypical behavior issues in laboratory animals by developing, implementing, and overseeing an additional enrichment program and schedule for non-human primates.Provided ample space for incoming animal orders by designing an animal room census to prevent overcrowding. This included conducting weekly room counts to ensure animal room orders for the week didn’t supersede room capacity limits.Supported animal dosing studies on weekends and holidays for multiple investigators to ensure animals were dosed/treated according to study protocols by establishing a spreadsheet and coordinating with colleagues for support.Guaranteed all groups were fully supported, and all studies were completed on time by initiating a Microsoft Outlook Calendar to institute communication during and after business hours, ensuring study requests were covered.
