I have waited and prepared my entire life to become a school counselor. I embarked on my journey to become a counselor by attending Amberton University approximately nine years ago and graduated on May 22, 2020! I am truly excited and ready for my new endeavor. Why so long you may ask? I had so many great experiences, opportunities, and promotions within Dallas Independent School District where I have initiated and developed various career and technology programs to support students by making them college, career, and military ready (CCMR) over the past thirteen years. Here is my very own philosophy of counseling: I believe that every student is their own unique individual and has dreams and goals that they must accomplish throughout their lifetime. I believe that everything around the student, both in and out of the classroom affects the student’s beliefs and perspectives about the world around them. As a counselor, I believe that you must be ready to listen to fully understand each students’ views, situations in life, and be truly unbiased to support their own growth and development as well as their ability to self-regulate. My philosophy is based on a theory called existentialism. I believe that people search for true meaning in their life. My approach to helping students find their meaning in life is by questioning, journaling, and helping facilitate and nurture their own unique solutions since they have the freedom to take action for their own life choices. I believe that all counselors can support by guiding students to become masters of their own craft by understanding key components outlined in the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. These success initiatives are in the areas of guidance curriculum, responsive services, individual planning, and other areas of system support. All these tenants provide a foundation for helping students deal with their unique situations, promote positive mental health, and achieve success in life to become productive citizens. In conclusion, I strive to be a counselor for student achievement and emotional stability which will ultimately influence a positive impact in the instructional environment within a school campus. I will be a counselor who follows all ethical guidelines for the well-being of students, parents, and the entire school staff and other stakeholders
