Established the Africa Ebola Unit, managed and coordinated USAID's Ebola recovery programs across numerous Agency operating units, as well as across the broader USG interagency, including efforts by the State Department, National Institutes of Health, National Security Council, Office of Management and Budget and Congressional oversight committees. Coordinated recovery efforts focused on Mitigating the Secondary Impacts of Ebola, including Food Security; Restoring Essential Non-Ebola Health Services; Strengthening Health Systems; Improving Governance and Economic Crisis Mitigation; and Innovation, Communications and Technology. Served as primary interlocutor to the international community, including the United Nations. Result: The spread of EVD halted, which was initially projected to infect more than a million people; and health systems strengthening and other recovery efforts are well advanced. -

Directed staff of 100+ technical experts, managing 60+ implementing partners.Selected Accomplishments:• Led and directed bilateral country program and development of a nearly $1 billion, 5-year country strategy supporting four Presidential Initiatives in food security, global health, global climate change, and global engagement, as well as economic growth, democracy and governance and disaster and humanitarian assistance. Tripled the budget, doubled staff and recruited high performing team to implement new program. • Established new development programs that have led to 30 percent increase in agriculture production; significant decreases in child and maternal mortality meeting Millennium Development Goals; important declines in greenhouse gas emissions; and more efficient response to natural disasters and humanitarian assistance. • Directed U.S. government response to Cyclone Sidr disaster that devastated southern Bangladesh, destroyed crops and led to 4,000 deaths. Coordinated U.S. relief efforts across the interagency, to provide life-saving food, water and supplies to more than 8 million affected people.
