My name is Denise Tovar, and I am currently a Junior at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) majoring in accounting. After graduating, I want to pursue a career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). I do not have any accounting experience, but I am actively looking for potential internships for the summer of 2024. One notable thing about me is that I take great pride in being a first-generation student and am incredibly grateful for all the opportunities given to me. I first discovered my interest in accounting in high school but only knew I wanted to become a CPA once I was in a life-altering car crash. Although I faced no physical impairments, I felt mainly stuck in my education and career and did not know what my career options were or what I wanted to do with my degree. Ultimately, the event that almost led to me losing my life helped me get introduced to a couple of incredible CPAs who worked at my insurance firm, and with their help, I felt like I had finally found what I wanted to do in accounting. Although this happened years ago, I will never forget the sheer joy and relief I felt when I discovered the path I thought was perfect for me. Because of this, I am very ambitious and driven and have shown my ability to perform well under pressure consistently. Also, because of my past work experiences, I excel at constantly building and maintaining good connections with practically anyone I meet. Also, I am passionate about creating a positive work environment and safe space for everyone around me.
