Denise Yan is a second year student at George Washington University's School of Business. She is working towards double degrees: BS in Information Systems with a minor in Statistics, and BA in Chinese Language and Literature. She was a part of her high school's Early College Dual Enrollment Program, studying at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland. There, she earned her AA Degree in Business Administration while simultaneously earning her high school diploma from Richard Montgomery High School. She was also an active member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Renaissance Scholars Honors Program. From a young age, Denise has had a passion for music and piano. She has competed internationally in Austria and Amsterdam; and in the US at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Strathmore Mansion in Maryland. Denise also earned her diploma in social music when she was 15, certifying her to teach piano in North America. Since then, she has worked with students five and older, increasing their music comprehension in order to prepare them for exams and competitions. Additionally, Denise also enjoys skateboarding, and works for Rockville City Recreation and Parks as a Skate Camp instructor and skate park attendant. She is responsible for monitoring the safety of skaters of all skaters and maintaining a clean facility to ensure a safe and inviting environment. While at Montgomery College, Denise also worked as a student tutor at the campus' Trio Student Support Services office. She aided underprivileged and non-traditional students with their coursework to increase student engagement and improve grades. Outside of academics, Denise is involved in many cultural and activism based organizations and activities. In high school, she was president of the Asian American Club and Girls For Business. Most notably, she has won the title of 2023 Pacific Miss Asian American 2nd Runner Up, in which she uses her position to support and advocate for her Asian community.
