This another opportunity to work with at-risk college students. With this grant, we'll work with first-generation, low income students and students with disabilities. This makes 37 years of serving these students using a variety of research-based proven strategies. This is also 37 years of grant funded employment.

Our Title III project has two foundations - one is student engagement and the other is gateway course redesign. My role is to work closely with academic departments as they redesign their gateway courses. For student engagement, my students are those who have needed to appeal to gain admission due to low ACT scores, low high school GPA and/or low class rank. I teach a Peak Performance class that is roughly interactive and focused on day-by-day skills to be successful.This experience adds to my 34 years of student engagement and retention. I employ a number of retention techniques that I've combined which are proven to accomplish student retention.

I have taught online General Psychology since 2006 using BlackBoard. After the first year, my course has had the highest enrollment of any online concurrent course at the community college. I created an academic advising class for faculty on Moodle.

In 2007, I initiated a redirection of the services provided by the office. The office changed from a reactive mode to a proactive intrusive model with the name changed to the Center for Student Success. We began tracking students from the first day and met weekly with college professional staff and faculty about individual students. With the Title III project we assisted faculty in developing online courses and provided support services to nursing students and developmental students (with supplemental instruction).

In 1980 I accepted the directorship of a federal project to disseminate state career information to high school student via microcomputer. In 1981 we had created the software delivery system, gathered and entered the career information and delivered the software system to three high schools for pilot testing. By 1991 this highly successful demonstration project lead to over 100 related sponsored projects for counselor training, software modification or additional information data sets. For instance, we deployed a test system for the early Macintosh, created a job search system for Hutchinson area rehabilitation services office and added assistive devices for all the Kansas occupations in our database.
