Landscape architecture is the design and engineering of outdoor spaces in order to achieve a harmonious balance with architecture and the natural environment. As a landscape architect, I possess a technical understanding and creative flair for the design, organization, and use of exterior spaces. We are responsible for the design, permitting and construction of the spaces surrounding buildings and the spaces surrounding the natural environment and the utilities, roadways, parking lots, storm water management, planting, and hardscapes (concrete, asphalt, stone, etc.) that these spaces are comprised of. My experience includes employment with two of Charlotte’s most respected architectural firms, LS3P and Little Diversified Architectural Consulting. I’ve also had considerable experience working with design/build companies which has given me a practical and realistic approach to problem solving. My management philosophy is closely aligned with strength based leadership concepts. The design team is very similar to athletic and high performance teams where a group of individuals share a common vision and depend on each other to accomplish goals that are greater than any one member of the group can achieve individually. Individual talents spark group synergy and the results are almost always uniquely creative and impossible to achieve independently. Dedicated team members, a defined system, tools/technology and visionary leadership is essential. Failure at any one of these four components and your team will never achieve its full potential. Individuals should be willing to place the team’s success ahead of his or her own. Projects and clients change and evolve so each team member must also have the ability to be flexible while continuously maintaining the team’s core vision. An effective and successful team must prioritize responsibility and expectations with visions and goals.
