Thesis Title: Hydrodynamics at the Toe of a Living Dike: Insights from Delta Flume Experiments and SWASH Model Calibration This thesis investigates the hydrodynamics at the toe of a living dike through 1:1 scale experiments conducted in the Delta Flume at Deltares. The study focuses on analyzing Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) measurements collected at the dike toe to understand the flow patterns and wave dynamics in this critical region. The experimental data is further utilized to calibrate and validate a numerical SWASH model, enabling the extension of the dataset and providing a more comprehensive understanding of the hydrodynamic processes at the toe of the living dike. The calibrated SWASH model serves as a tool to explore scenarios beyond the limitations of the physical experiments, enhancing the predictive capabilities for dike design and coastal resilience.
