At Athletes For Change our mission is to save, nurture and protect our children by showing love, providing shelter and giving them the confidence to make their transition back into society successful and rewarding. Athletes For Change is a Residential Treatment Center for boys ages 13-17. We are located in Glenn Heights, TX (DeSoto area). Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs) are general residential operations that provide treatment services to children with emotional or behavioral disorders. Our RTC is a 24-hour full boarding program for troubled youth who need to be away from or are unable to return to their homes or foster care. Treatment, counseling, therapy, physical fitness and schooling are part of the program to help the individual turn his life around. Our facility is fully licensed through the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. We have a full-time, on-site staff of qualified, licensed professionals to provide individualized treatment programs for resident youth to promote a positive improvement of self-esteem and a learned acceptance of responsibility for one’s actions. There is a real need for these types of facilities locally in the Dallas County area. During the month of August 2010, in the Dallas/Tarrant and surrounding counties, 251 children were placed in Residential Treatment Centers. 187 of these children were placed in centers located outside the region. 126 of the children placed outside the region are ages 14-17.
