I have over 30 years’ experience in the computer software industry. My focus was on relational databases, development, and project management. I am passionate about the iterative process of defining requirements, selecting software tools, coding, testing, and implementation. When working with a project team, I select people with the right mix of skills and inspire them to generate great ideas. To keep the projects on schedule, I hold the team accountable for progress while keeping an open door for questions and collaborative problem solving.I'm have created database queries that are able to fetch 4 million rows in under 30 minutes. Senior Information Technology AnalystNyse Jul 2018 - Dec 2019New York, Ny, UsWorked on two challenging projects, both are required by the SEC and involve gathering order, trade, and market data for auditing and surveillance. I'm satisfied and happy with the project results.I am also assisted with the conversion of the Chicago Stock Exchange's Institutional Broker Client over to NYSE's Pillar matching engine. -
Senior Information Technology ArchitectChicago Stock Exchange 2010 - Jul 2018Chicago, Illinois, UsAs a Senior Information Technology Architect for the Chicago Stock Exchange, I’ve been on several exciting projects. Most recently, I’ve designed and developed an application for the SEC that writes 4 million records per hour. The application joins to market data that contains up to 1 billion records per day. I have also worked on a project that would show what orders were in the Matching Engine order book at any moment during the day. I enjoy projects that utilize my ability to scrutinize processes, find secrets in data, and find new ways to make it more efficient and accurate. When I lead teams, I find out what each person does best and optimize the results by having them contribute their strengths. -
Senior System AnalystChicago Stock Exchange 2006 - 2010Chicago, Illinois, UsWhen I was a Senior Systems Analyst, I produced an IT maintenance free application that dynamically audits the database, identifies the reference tables, and shows daily changes in a spreadsheet. The Market Regulation department found this report to be much easier to read and more accurate. My work also included managing a team of 25 developers on Post-Trade applications. We reconnected over 200 brokerage firms and traders into the Exchange.During this time period, Bernard Madoff was making an impression on the marketplace. In order to stay competitive with Mr. Madoff, I developed an application that pays brokers for sending orders in stocks traded by Madoff. It is fascinating how things turned out for Mr. Madoff. -
Systems AnalystChicago Stock Exchange 2000 - 2006Chicago, Illinois, UsAs a Systems Analyst, I looked at the Oracle tools introduced with each database release. I simplified NYSE Chicago applications by using hierarchical quires, introducing the IT staff to Oracle’s WITH clause, and designed database applications using cached records and data collections. I take pride in knowing that my efforts have moved Chicago Stock Exchange forward from known techniques into new out-of-the-box thinking.I developed a dial-up application—ground breaking at the time—for order sending firms to reconcile their orders in Chicago Stock Exchange order book. It reduced errors by giving them a discrepancy report immediately. -
Lead ProgrammerChicago Stock Exchange 1992 - 2000Chicago, Illinois, UsDuring my time as a Lead Programmer, I engineered a database logging application that helps IT support staff with long running jobs. Before this application, IT support staff was working blind; not knowing when jobs would complete. Because of its ease of use, it is currently in all of Chicago Stock Exchange's batch jobs. It feels good when an application stands the test of time.I also introduced the IT staff to Oracle’s Global Temporary Tables. It is a technique that simplifies database procedures by managing the session-private temporary data. When a developer does not have to manage the ‘working’ data, the PL/SQL procedures are smaller and less complicated. -
ProgrammerChicago Stock Exchange 1987 - 1992Chicago, Illinois, UsI worked with a team of developers to maintain Post-Trade, Billing, and Market Regulations applications. This includes upgrading the applications to VAX/Alpha.I created a Daily Dividend Report to help the Chicago Stock Exchange staff set opening stock prices from a list of over 8,000 stocks.I enjoyed maintaining, improving, and building applications that added value and benefited the exchange. -
Lead ProgrammerOmeda 1987 - 1987Chicago, Illinois, UsI developed an application for maintaining mailing lists for magazine publications. The application allowed for managing a publication of up to 1,000,000 subscribers; and, Omēda double the staff. I am pleased to see that today, they have the largest subscription fulfillment service, processing millions of transactions per month. -
Software ProgrammerInland Real Estate Investment Corporation 1985 - 1987Oak Brook, Illinois, UsI worked with a team of developers on applications for real estate sales. I started as an intern, while attending college, and became full time after graduation. It was great to be working in a job that matched my studies.
