In 1981 I noticed a posting for a position as an Expediter with Raymond Engineers who were building the Worsley Alumina plant. This company then became involved with KGC who were responsible for the Gorgon project. This was an exciting time of my life and I felt I had found my future in the expediting, Maintenance Planning, engineering strategy, and Inspection of large mining and O&G projects. I was accepted by Phil Wilton (MD of QA Management) who took me in as an Inspector/coordinator during his three years posting to Velosi Brisbane. At QA Management-Velosi I successfully replaced Phil for all administrative duties and project management of a large international inspection service, including sales/demonstrations of NDT equipment, coordinating worldwide inspectors plus reviewing and sending written reports to clients. I was then made Senior Field Inspector and in this capacity I inspected equipment for the mining and petro-chemical industries where I was required to visit vendors within Western Australia, on behalf of major clients or stakeholders, to accurately assess purchase orders or project progress, witness or verify points of ITP documents, specifications, inspect welds and to witness manufacture of ferrous or non-ferrous, FRP, plastic and machined items. I inspected many of the major O&G and mining projects that came through the office of QA Management-Velosi, with several projects that required site work for extended periods or as required. As a senior Third Party Welding and Mechanical Inspector I inspected according to welding codes ASME IX, , AS 1210, AS 3992, AS 1554.1, through to AS 1554.5, with focus on welding, materials, Civil Construction and NDE (MT, PT, UT, RI) etc. As a TPI I was required to daily attend at any intervention point or attend final inspections
