Dr. Dennis G. Dye is a research scientist, educator and administrator with expertise in biophysical remote sensing, geospatial information technology, data analytics and related applications to natural resources management and Earth system science. Since earning a doctoral degree in Geography at University of Maryland, Dennis' professional career has included faculty positions at University of Tokyo and Boston University, and senior research positions at the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). In 2018, he joined Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) in Albuquerque, New Mexico as Lead Instructor and Program Coordinator for Geospatial Information Technology. At SIPI he has worked to enhance the education and career opportunities of Native American students in geoinformatics through a quality academic program and engagement in research. In 2019 he received the SIPI Faculty Member of the Year Award from the American Indian College Fund. In 2023, Dennis was appointed as Director of Extension Programs at SIPI. As Extension Director, he is developing new education and training programs in agriculture and STEM that address the needs of Tribal communities. Dennis Dye is a Sequoyah Fellow of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) and an enrolled member of Cherokee Nation.
