Denny managed staff work on both current and long range planning projects. The Milwaukie City Council gave him an outstanding retirement present at his last Council meeting by adopting a new comprehensive plan after a three-year effort to completely rewrite the plan. The plan rewrite was proceeded by a year-long, award winning process to create a community vision. Denny also oversaw work to create a new downtown urban renewal district and updates to district plans for the downtown and the central Milwaukie areas. The district plans were completed in advance of the opening of the Portland to Milwaukie light rail line in September 2015

Dennis Egner managed the Long Range Planning division of the Planning and Building Department. He directly supervised five professional planners, one administrative support staff member, and an intern. He was part of the overall department management team overseeing a $4.2 million budget and 26 employees. Mr. Egner was responsible for making staff assignments, developing work plans and schedules, providing guidance, editing reports and products, evaluating performance, preparing the division budget, hiring staff to fill vacancies, and managing consultant contracts.
