Ever since I was a young kid, I loved math. But I got my start in the world of finance completely by accident. After college, I moved to New York City to pursue a career in music and theatre. I intended to support myself by waiting tables but prior to my move, I made an important discovery…I was a horrible waiter. Seriously. I spilled wine on people, I mixed up orders, I dumped clam sauce into a lady’s purse. I was 100% surviving on personality at that job!So upon arrival in NYC, I instead took my speed-typing skills to a temp agency and was offered my first position in accounting. It was a moment of fate.I immersed myself in the world of debits, credits and the general ledger, and found myself completely losing all track of time - oddly similar to how I felt when I was immersed in the world of music. I guess that makes sense, though. Both disciplines require incredible attention to detail, perseverance and a strong work ethic in order to be successful.In the years since, I have been fortunate to build a career in finance and accounting, while simultaneously continuing my path in music and entertainment - the best of both worlds!
