As a private IT consultant I work with clients to optimize their business process workload automation, infrastructure, and best practices specializing in Cisco's Tidal Enterprise Scheduler / Cisco Workload Automation. I am available to provide global onsite and remote consulting services.I have deep experience in designing and automating workloads across a large variety of hardware platforms, 3rd party software, database platforms and programming languages to ensure consistent, repeatable operational procedures and minimize outages brought on by manual processes.I help clients:- plan and conduct system upgrades- deploy new system installation- conduct initial system designs and system overhaul/redesigns- migrate existing legacy processes into the Tidal environment- define automation design best practices for new projects- define enterprise wide integration between their automation platform and internal or 3rd party ticketing software, infrastructure monitoring solutions, and release management.

I managed a global team responsible for the support and management of NYSE Euronext's automation environment, running on Cisco's Tidal Enterprise Scheduling platform. The team oversaw all of the automation efforts for NYSE Euronext, resulting in an approximate 50% reduction in the manpower required to run NYSE Euronext's operations and back office environments. We defined, maintained, and enforced scripting and release standards, procedures, and methodologies for the company. The team managed an average of 50 automation job stream releases and approximately 50 infrastructure changes per week. There were over 20 development, testing, and production environments under management. These environments supported all of our operational and back-office data flows and applications. There were over 80,000 jobs defined in our production environments resulting in over 500,000 job runs per day. The environments are accessed by over 400 operational, development, test, and support group users. We oversaw the migration of the automation environments for the company's data center consolidation efforts with no downtime or service interruption. The Tidal automation platform was the first application to go live in both data center migrations, providing a stable and reliable footing for the rest of the company. We defined and oversaw the standards for the company's migration of the NYSE post trade processing onto the Abinitio platform, as well as overseeing the migration of all the automation for the company's Netezza, Oracle, and SQLServer database housekeeping and scripting onto our automation platform.We maintained a 24x7x365 support rota with a 15 minute response SLA covering the Chicago, New York, London, and Paris production environments.

I successfully built an enterprise scheduling center of excellence during this period, bringing in employees from the Pacific Stock Exchange purchase and the New York Stock Exchange merger to comprise a five member team. During this period we migrated our Chicago Tidal Enterprise Scheduling environments to the 5.x release and from a Windows/SQLServer platform to a Linux/Oracle platform. We also built out the development, quality assurance, pre-production, and production environments to support the merger with NYSE and the migration of the NYSE and SIAC operational and back office processing onto the Tidal Enterprise Scheduling environment. We established the basis of our release and testing procedures for all tidal releases. The TES environments were the first major application to be deployed within the Common Management Interface (CMI) network layer utilizing both Citrix and terminal servers for common access points. We defined and oversaw the process for migrating all of the Arca and NYSE/SIAC operational processes into the Tidal automation environment. Our automation platform was successfully built and deployed to our European data centers in London and Paris during this period.

I managed Archipelago's Oracle database development team during this period. I established release and testing procedures as well as deployment and acceptance guidelines. I created a methodology that resulted in consistent and repeatable success in all of our Oracle database releases. I oversaw the full deployment and utilization of the Tidal Enterprise Scheduling environment for the development, quality assurance and production environments at Archipelago.

I was responsible for the initial deployment of the Tidal Enterprise Scheduling environment for Archipelago (now NYSE Euronext) for a proof of concept and subsequently for the development, quality assurance, and production environments. I defined, coded and deployed dozens of reusable, parameterized scripts to assist in the automation of all of Archipelago's sql server, oracle, windows, and unix operational environments. I defined and enforced strict coding standards for all windows, sql sever, unix, and oracle scripting to ensure full integration with the automation environment. Through this effort I set up an operational model that assured an operational environment that was fully automated and self-alerting via sms messaging.

Managed a team of 2 operational dba’s and co-managed a team of 3 oracle dba’s overseeing and coordinating all DBA responsibilities, including uptime monitoring, performance monitoring, tuning, backup strategies, physical and logical database design and layout, application design and optimization, application and database release scheduling, on-call rotations, capacity planning and monitoring, and database maintenance activities. Initiated security and coding guidelines for the Oracle development teams and implemented a database code migration process ensuring robust code would exist in the production system. Also responsible for the scheduling, monitoring, and support of Oracle data warehouse and data mart loads and data availability. Responsible for coordinating all of the scheduling and data availability based on the needs of the business owners and acting as their liaison between the development and production support teams. Both the job scheduling and monitoring were designed and built by me from the ground-up using Unix korn shell, the SysAdmiral enterprise scheduling software (Tidalsoft), NT .bat jobs, and Oracle PL/SQL procedures. The warehouse and data marts are Oracle 8i and contain 2+ terabytes of data. The job schedule and data movement needs were quite complex involving many cross platform dependencies and data transformations. Over 400 jobs (2000+ separate job steps) are being maintained on a daily basis across multiple Solaris and Windows NT servers. The NT servers are running MS SQLServer 7.0 batch/DTS jobs, for which I also defined and implemented standards. Helped to set up Informatica to transform and load the data to the data marts from the data warehouse. Also defined data loading methodologies for our SAS processes. Gained familiarity with a number of database and system monitoring and debugging tools for Oracle and Unix.

Key member of the team responsible for the conversion of BVPD’s theatrical distribution system from a VAX/RDB/COBOL to SQLServer 6.5/Visual Basic/NT 4.0 environment. Personally responsible for the conversion of most of the legacy application’s data inquiry tools to web based applications. Extensive use of vbscript and ado as well as javascript. Also primary developer responsible for the migration of the Accounts Receivable system from VAX/RDB/COBOL to SQLServer 6.5/Visual Basic/NT 4.0. Involved in ongoing support, maintenance, and tuning of this system which was deployed 4/4/99. The same software was deployed to Miramax films in October of 1999. Worked largely on my own (self managed).

Responsible for overseeing the completion of an intranet based orientation program for new hires. This program was developed using html, java, and shockwave as a proof of concept for intranet multimedia delivery. Participated in some design discussions and java and html coding/debugging. Responsible for budgeting, purchasing and set up of the necessary hardware for a small multimedia development group. We used a Windows NT server with Windows 95 workstations. Responsible for technical staffing and scheduling for two Computer Based Training (CBT) projects. Responsible for technical architecture and documentation of these products. The projects were written in Director 5.0. The target machines were IBM Microchannel architecture 486-33mhz with 8m Ram. This presented some interesting technical challenges. Was a key resource for the design team’s technical considerations. Responsible for bringing the prototypes for both projects in on scheduled delivery dates for executive review. This was accomplished despite slips in the design and media delivery.Responsible for backline nationwide support for two CBT’s currently in national implementation phase. Duties included 24x7 oncall support and formal and informal training of field support personnel.

Responsible for full life cycle of project to maintain data concurrency and provide data conversion between two heterogeneous databases (VMS RDB 6.0/MS SQLServer 6.0). Project team consisted one SQLServer support person and myself. Extensive use of VMS RDB and SQLServer advanced functionality was required. Driving program for concurrency was written using MS Visual C++ 4.2. Responsible for complete rewrite of automated theatre box office receipt delivery system (Autobox). Effort resulted in standardization of delivered data format and a reduction from 10 to2 hours per week programmer support time.Responsible for extensive upgrades and support to the current legacy system for BVPD’s accounting and film tracking system. Streamlined many of the processes saving 100’s of man-hours of data processing time. Extensive use of embedded rdo, embedded sql and SQLMod for database access.

I was self employed during this period and held contracting positions with Santa Fe Pacific Pipelines, Interstate Electronics, Lockheed Corporation, Ambi/McKesson, McDonnell-Douglas Space Station Division, ASFA, PacTel, Apple, Pacificare Health Systems, and Bank of America. Specific details can be provided as required. Primarily I worked as a VAX/VMS, RDB, MMS, CMS and DCL specialist. I provided full life cycle development using C, Fortran, Cobol and Dibol. I also created automated release techniques utilizing VAX/VMS's code management and build tools, CMS and MMS. I became adept with Ingres and early SQLServer releases during this period as well.
