Dennis Powers, president of Dennis Powers Productions, Inc., in New York City, started his career in advertising as a copywriter at J. Walter Thompson Company in New York. Later, he became vice president and creative supervisor at Young & Rubicam Advertising, working on the Eastern Airlines, Chrysler, Dr. Pepper and Gulf Oil accounts, and subsequently was named president of Young & Rubicam's division for Corporate Communications. In 1980, he started his own production company in order to direct and produce documentary films for television, corporate videos and television commercials (clients included General Electric, General Motors, IBM, Merrill Lynch, Pfizer, Sony Corporation and PBS). During this period, Dennis produced and directed many award-winning projects, including an hour-long PBS documentary on The Actors Studio, featuring Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Eli Wallach, Harvey Keitel, Lee Grant and Norman Mailer; a PBS documentary on Andrew Wyeth, featuring Charleton Heston; and several award-winning films for the Boys' Club of New York, where Dennis serves as a Trustee. He has also produced and directed fund-raising videos for Boys and Girls' Harbor, the University of Virginia, Darden Business School and The New-York Historical Society.
